Most "alternative" pages are a straw man. This one is not. inteliGelato — the USA/World label of the European myGelato.eu — is a genuinely good product, and the team behind it has clearly spent real time in gelato, not just in software. AI-supported formulation, an automatic label generator with ingredients and nutritional values, food cost, a database of hundreds of verified ingredients plus commercial components, production support, and apps across iOS, Android and Linux. If we are being honest with you, they are the competitor we take most seriously. So here is the comparison as it really stands.

Why consider FormulaMaps
1. The price gap is not marginal — it is an order of magnitude
This is the honest headline. inteliGelato's entry tier is 399 USD/year for 100 recipes; OPTIMUM is 499 USD the first year for new clients and 699 USD/year after that for 200 recipes; CUSTOM starts at 2999 USD. FormulaMaps is €49/year, about €4.90 a month, with no recipe cap in the paid plan and a free start of 3 formulas. Those prices are not fighting for the same wallet. If you run several branches, need compliant labels printed every week and want a technologist on the other end of the line, their price can be entirely reasonable. If you are one artisan or one shop who mainly needs the numbers to come out right, paying eight to fourteen times more is a decision worth making consciously rather than by default.
2. Five crafts, not one
inteliGelato is a gelato product and does not pretend otherwise — that focus is part of why it is good at gelato. FormulaMaps takes the opposite bet: one engine across ice cream, pastry, bakery, turrón and cacao. Most workshops we know are not gelato-only. They make gelato in summer, turrón at Christmas, and tarts and doughs all year. If that is your shop, a gelato-only subscription leaves four of your five problems unsolved.
3. You can test ours in the next thirty seconds
inteliGelato's trial is by request — you fill in a form or write on WhatsApp, and someone gets back to you. That is a perfectly normal B2B model and it lets them onboard you properly. But it is a different experience from opening a page and typing a recipe. FormulaMaps has a public calculator with no signup at all: no email, no call, no waiting. You can disagree with our numbers within a minute of arriving, which we think is the right way round.
4. Built so AI agents can call the engine, not just chat about it
Both tools say "AI", but they mean different things. Theirs is an assistant inside their app, and their OPTIMUM tier does real work with it — automatic balancing, sweetness, fat, lactose and TS adjustment, stabilizer adjustment, powdered-base removal. Ours is an AI tutor sitting on top of a deterministic engine — the maths is fixed and auditable; the AI explains it rather than inventing it. The structural difference is what sits underneath: FormulaMaps exposes a public API and a native MCP server with 9 tools, so an AI agent — Claude, or whatever you use — can call the balancing engine directly, from outside the app. If you want your assistant to formulate as part of a wider workflow rather than in someone's chat window, that matters.
5. Made by an ice-cream family, in the open
FormulaMaps comes from Familia Llinares in Azuaga (Spain), making ice cream since 1947. The workshop reference ranges the engine checks your formula against come from that, not from a literature review. It runs in the browser in 5 languages, on whatever device is free.
To be fair
inteliGelato is a strong product and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Two things in particular deserve credit.
The first is the automatic label generator. Producing ingredient lists and nutritional values that stand up to inspection is tedious, error-prone work, and building it properly is harder than it looks. If labelling is your bottleneck, that feature alone can pay for their subscription — FormulaMaps does not do it.
The second is their plasticity parameter in temperature, which they describe as a first in the world: a real-time analysis of whether the gelato will actually be plastic and scoopable at a given temperature. We find that idea genuinely good, and we say so with something close to recognition — because FormulaMaps arrived at convergent thinking from the classical route, expressing PAC directly as a serving temperature on a −12.5…−10.6 °C scale and drawing the freezing curve. Two teams, two different paths, the same underlying insight: what matters is not an abstract index, it is how the gelato behaves in the tub. We got there independently, and we are happy to see someone else got there too.
And if you run several sites, an industrial line or a franchise, their production planning, cost optimization and technologist support are aimed at problems FormulaMaps simply does not try to solve. In that case they are probably the right tool, and we would rather say so than sell you something that does not fit.
Test it with your own recipe
The fastest way to settle this is not to read either of our marketing pages. Open the free FormulaMaps ice cream calculator — no account, no form, no waiting for a reply — and put in a mix you already know by heart. Read its PAC, POD and solids against workshop ranges, and look at the serving temperature the engine gives you. If the numbers match what your hands already know, you have your answer about the engine. Then request inteliGelato's trial too, and compare like for like: that is a fair test, and we are comfortable with it.
Frequently asked questions
How much does inteliGelato cost compared with FormulaMaps?
inteliGelato publishes three tiers: STANDARD 399 USD/year (100 recipes); OPTIMUM 499 USD the first year for new clients, 699 USD/year regular (200 recipes); and CUSTOM from 2999 USD for multi-branch, industrial, franchise and school use. FormulaMaps is €49/year (€4.90/month), with a free start of 3 formulas plus a public calculator that needs no signup. Prices retrieved from inteligelato.com on 19 July 2026 and may change — check their site.
Does FormulaMaps generate nutritional labels like inteliGelato?
No, and this is the clearest thing they have that we do not. Their automatic label generator produces ingredients and nutritional values, which is real, useful work. FormulaMaps concentrates on the formulation engine: per-sugar PAC and POD with workshop ranges, PAC as serving temperature, freezing curve and food cost, across five crafts.
Can I try either tool before paying?
Both, yes. inteliGelato offers a free trial by request, via a form or WhatsApp. FormulaMaps has a public calculator with no signup, plus a free account with 3 saved formulas. The difference is not whether you can try it, but whether you wait for a reply first.
Which one is better for a multi-site or industrial operation?
Theirs, most likely. OPTIMUM adds production planning, cost optimization and technologist support, and CUSTOM from 2999 USD is aimed explicitly at multi-branch, industrial, franchise and school users. FormulaMaps is a formulation tool, not a production management system.
Do both tools think about gelato at serving temperature?
Yes — and, as far as we can tell, independently. They claim a first-in-the-world plasticity parameter in temperature, an AI real-time analysis of plasticity at a given temperature. FormulaMaps expresses PAC directly as a serving temperature on a −12.5…−10.6 °C scale and draws the freezing curve. Convergent thinking, arrived at from two different directions.
